Installing a deck correctly is very important to extend the lifespan of your timber, this means you will be able to enjoy your new asset for many years to come.

  1. For best results, any decking close to the ground, less than 400mm ground clearance, decking boards should not exceed 86mm in width.

  2. Good drainage should always be taken into consideration when your deck is being installed.

  3. Good airflow underneath decking boards also reduces the likelihood of a damp area underneath the deck.

  4. Fixings should be at every joint crossing with 2 screws or nails located 12mm in from the edges.  

Did you know?

Cupping is caused when the top surface dries more than the bottom surface. The top surface reduces in width, but the bottom surface does not. To avoid this Parkside Timber recommends coating all six sides of the decking boards prior to installation.
